Sad news, Step City. I got the call that Liana passed this evening. It was peaceful and she was comfortable and surrounded by her family which is all anyone could ask for.

I’d like to say thank you for being such a great supportive group and for the outpouring of love you showed her.

I promised to keep the #Step City folks in the loop re Lilah’s condition, so this is me keeping that promise, difficult as it can be.

Unfortunately, she recently suffered a seizure which has left her non-verbal. She is still mentally aware, but is mostly unable to communicate with those around her. This weekend has been a mad dash of getting as many people as possible in town to see her and spreading the word to those who can’t be here physically.

It pains me to say it, but this disease is moving faster than I think anyone anticipated. I saw her last Saturday and, then, she was awake and alert and mostly her usual self. When I saw her again on Tuesday she had deteriorated slightly, and seemed more tired out and worn down. Now, she’s mostly aware but fades in and out and her attention drifts.

There’s still no definite timeline (and, honestly, no one’s had the heart to ask her parents or boyfriend if that’s true or not) but if I had to hazard a guess I would say that we’re firmly in ‘weeks left’ territory.

Still, I passed along everyone’s kind words and well wishes when I saw her last and she was glad to receive them. I’ve been told that there’s an art package in the works and I know she’ll love seeing that, too. Just (and I said it before), not to be morbid, but time is of the essence here, unfortunately. 

You guys have been great and I’m sorry to have to keep being the bearer of bad news … though I don’t know that there’s much good news to be had in a situation like this …

As always, I ask that you continue to keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. As tough as this has been on her friends, it’s been even harder on her folks and boyfriend.

As mentioned, I’m organizing the art package and I’d like to get it out by Wednesday. I’m still taking digital submissions and I’ll print them out to include so if you have time Monday and Tuesday to do some art for her, that’d be awesome. Send it to superfunk.stepcity@gmail.com

If you don’t have time to draw something, why not write her a letter? I’ll gladly print that out and include it too.
